Airport Transfer with a Toddler
Private Gold Coast airport transfers with forward-facing child seats — everything you need to know about travelling with children aged 6 months to 4 years
Book Toddler TransferToddlers and airports are a challenging combination — and that’s before you factor in luggage, prams, nappy bags and the unpredictability of a tired two-year-old. A private airport transfer removes the variables that rideshare and shuttle services can’t accommodate: pre-installed child seats, private space, no strangers, no sharing, no schedule pressure.
This guide covers everything families with toddlers need to know about booking and taking a Gold Coast airport transfer — from the correct seat type through to managing the journey when things don’t go to plan.
Child Seat Requirements for Toddlers
Queensland law divides child restraint requirements by age and developmental stage:
6 Months to Under 4 Years
Children in this age range must use either a rear-facing or forward-facing restraint with an inbuilt harness. At GC Airport Transfers, we supply a forward-facing baby seat that accommodates children in this range. Pre-installed and AS/NZS 1754 certified — $25 per seat.

Children 4 to under 7 must use a forward-facing restraint with harness or an approved booster seat. If your child is in this transitional age range, let us know when booking — we’ll advise on the most appropriate seat type based on their size.

The KIA Carnival people mover is the most popular choice for families with toddlers. Its wide sliding rear doors make loading a toddler into a child seat significantly easier than a standard sedan — no lifting over door sills, no head bumps, no gymnastics with a squirming two-year-old. The elevated roofline also means parents can stand upright while buckling harnesses.

What to Expect on the Day
Your driver arrives with seat pre-installed
The child seat is installed and checked before pickup. No fumbling with hardware in the car park. Your driver will show you the harness adjustment and confirm the fit suits your child’s size.
Luggage and pram loaded first
Boot is loaded before child boarding. Pram goes in last so it’s accessible at the destination without unpacking everything else. Mention pram fold style to your driver if you prefer a particular arrangement.
Toddler buckled with parent assistance
In the KIA Carnival, the sliding door gives full upright access. Parents buckle toddlers from a standing position — no crouching, no awkward angles. The driver will not rush this step.
Journey — plan for entertainment
Gold Coast Airport to Surfers Paradise is approximately 10–15 minutes. To Brisbane Airport, allow 1.5–2 hours. Pack tablet or device entertainment for longer journeys. Snacks in a mesh bag kept on the seat beside the toddler are more accessible than in the boot.
Arrival — unload in the correct order
Child out of seat first while the driver handles luggage. Pram assembled on the footpath before the child is set down. This two-step sequence prevents the common scenario of a toddler running loose while parents wrestle with a folded pram.
Packing Tips for Toddler Airport Transfers
- Accessible snack bag — Keep a small bag on the seat beside your toddler (not in the boot). Hunger meltdowns in a car are avoidable with easy access to snacks.
- Downloaded entertainment — Don’t rely on streaming. Download favourite shows or apps before travel. A tablet with headphones keeps toddlers focused during longer transfers.
- Change bag in the cabin — Nappies, wipes and a spare outfit accessible during the journey. Toddlers have impeccable timing for nappy incidents in transit.
- Familiar comforter — A favourite toy or comforter reduces anxiety in unfamiliar situations like a vehicle with a stranger driver.
- Sunshade for rear window — If travelling in the afternoon on west-facing routes, direct sun through rear windows agitates toddlers quickly. Pack a portable window shade.
Toddler Transfer FAQs
Do I need to bring my own toddler seat?
No. We supply and pre-install AS/NZS 1754 compliant forward-facing seats. Add the seat at booking ($25). If you prefer to bring your own, you can — just let us know and don’t add the seat to the booking.
Can my toddler and newborn travel together in one vehicle?
Yes. The KIA Carnival can accommodate both a rear-facing infant capsule and a forward-facing toddler seat simultaneously. Specify both at booking — we configure the vehicle to fit the combination comfortably.
What if my toddler has a meltdown during the transfer?
Our drivers are experienced with family travel. The vehicle is private — no other passengers to disturb. If you need to stop briefly to settle your child, communicate with your driver. We’d rather a calm arrival than a rushed one.
How long is the transfer from Gold Coast Airport to the main resort areas?
Gold Coast Airport to Surfers Paradise is approximately 10–15 minutes. Broadbeach is 15–20 minutes. Southport 20 minutes. Gold Coast to Brisbane Airport is approximately 1.5–2 hours depending on traffic.
Is there a change of nappy facility at Gold Coast Airport?
Yes. Gold Coast Airport has parents’ rooms in both the arrivals and departures areas, with change tables, feeding areas and privacy screens. If your toddler needs attention after landing, use the facility before boarding the transfer.
