How long does the Gold Coast Airport to Yamba transfer take?

About 2 hours 15 minutes door to door via the Pacific Highway, depending on traffic through Ballina.

Yamba sits at the mouth of the Clarence, about two and a quarter hours south of Gold Coast Airport. It is a working prawn port that happens to have four beaches inside the town boundary, and it gets compared to Byron Bay as Byron was thirty years ago — which locals have mixed feelings about. Most of our Yamba work is holiday traffic in summer and over Easter, plus a steady run of people visiting family.

Getting to Yamba from the airport

There is no direct public transport from Gold Coast Airport to Yamba. A coach can get you as far as Maclean or the highway turn-off, but you are then stuck ten kilometres short with your bags. A private transfer runs straight to the door of the house or apartment.

The drive is the M1 to Ballina, the Pacific Highway through Woodburn and Maclean, then the Yamba Road turn-off for the last stretch past the golf course. It is a straightforward run in daylight and a long dark one after sunset, which is why most people book rather than drive themselves after a flight.

Local notes for Yamba pickups

  • Main Beach and the Pacific Hotel. The obvious landmark end of town; handy if you are in one of the holiday apartments above the beach.
  • Pippi Beach and Convent Beach. Quieter, and the streets behind them are easy to miss in the dark — give us the street number.
  • Angourie. Five minutes south, Australia’s first National Surfing Reserve, home of the Blue Pool. Priced as Yamba.
  • The Iluka ferry. Passenger only. If you are staying in Iluka you need the road route, not the ferry — see our Iluka page.
  • Wooloweyah prices the same as Yamba.
