How long does the Gold Coast Airport to Iluka transfer take?
About 2 hours 30 minutes door to door via the Pacific Highway, depending on traffic through Ballina.
Iluka sits on the north bank of the Clarence, directly opposite Yamba and about two and a half hours from Gold Coast Airport. The two towns are a few hundred metres apart across the water and roughly sixty kilometres apart by road, which catches out a lot of first-time visitors. Iluka is the quieter of the pair — a fishing village with World Heritage rainforest on its doorstep.

Getting to Iluka from the airport
There is no public transport worth the name from Gold Coast Airport to Iluka. The passenger ferry from Yamba does not take vehicles, so a transfer comes the long way round via the Mororo turn-off and the Iluka Road.
That detour is why Iluka costs more than Yamba despite looking closer on a map. The run is the M1 to Ballina, the Pacific Highway past Woodburn, then east at Mororo for the last twenty-five kilometres through the bush. It is unlit for most of that final stretch.
Local notes for Iluka pickups
- The breakwall and boat harbour. The centre of town and the simplest meeting point.
- Iluka Nature Reserve. World Heritage listed as part of the Gondwana Rainforests — the largest remaining littoral rainforest in New South Wales, and a short walk from the village.
- Woody Head and Bundjalung National Park. Campground pickups are fine; give us the site number and allow extra time on the gravel.
- Woombah prices the same as Iluka.

Do you cover Iluka at night? Yes. Early-morning and late-night runs are common on this route — the booking form shows the exact fare for your pickup time.
Why is Iluka dearer than Yamba when it’s just across the river? The ferry carries passengers, not cars. By road it is an extra sixty kilometres each way via Mororo.
Do you carry child seats this far south? Yes. Capsules, forward-facing seats and boosters are $25 each, fitted before pickup. See our child seat guide.
